Physical Activity And Active Life Cycling from Bursa To Denizli


The members of BUBİDOSD (Bursa Bicycle and Friends of Nature Association), NowWeMove’s Turkey coordinatorship, Muğla-centered ENVERÇEVKO (Energy Efficiency and Environment Protection Association) and ULUBİS (Uludağ University Bicycle Club) cycled from Bursa to Denizli with the slogan “Time to Move Now” on May 1-5, 2017 in Turkish Healthy Cities Association’s organization in order to raise awareness about physical activity and active life.

Covering 580 km within 6 days, 25 cyclists from different age groups visited 8 mayors and informed them about obesity, diabetes and metabolic diseases and raised concern over physical activity.

Recep Altepe, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and the President of Turkish Healthy Cities Association, gave the start signal of the bike tour from Bursa to Denizli together with Erdem Saker who is the Former Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Advisory Board Member of Turkish Healthy Cities Association and retired Turkish Radio Television (TRT) speaker Özcan Atamert, daughter of Captain Daniş Karabelen who had cycled from Edirne to Ardahan leading 28 bikers by command of Atatürk in 1928.

After start, cyclists visited Harmancık Mayor Mustafa Çetinkaya, Tavşanlı Mayor Mustafa Güler, Çavdarhisar Mayor Halil Başer, Gediz Mayor Mehmed Ali Saraoğlu, Uşak Mayor Nurullah Cahan, Merkezefendi Mayor Muhammet Şubaşıoğlu, Pamukkale Mayor Hüseyin Gürlesin and Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Osman Zolan respectively and gave information about the purpose of the tour and the works of Turkish Healthy Cities Association.

During the municipality visits, many cyclist students and non-governmental organizations welcome and supported our team at the entrance of the city.
In the closing ceremony of the Denizli conference organizeb by Turkish Healthy Cities Association entitled “The Use of Geothermal Resources in Healthy Cities” hosted by the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, video footage of the bike tour was shared with the participants.
