Due to the vacancy of the presidential office after the resignation of Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Recep Altepe, Turkish Healthy Cities Assembly gathered in Bursa under the presidency of Deputy Chairman of Turkish Healthy Cities Association and Golcuk Mayor Mehmet Ellibeş upon the call of the Governor of Bursa. In the assembly with high attendance, the only candidate Menderes Mehmet Tevfik Turel, Antalya Metropolitan Mayor, was elected the new president of Turkish Healthy Cities Association.
Before the election, the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Menderes Mehmet Tevfik Turel, Member of Turkish Healthy Cities Association and Bayındır Mayor Ufuk Sesli and host Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş greeted the participants with their opening speeches.
Following the speeches, voting took place and after counting was completed Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Menderes Mehmet Tevfik Türel became the new president of Turkish Healthy Cities Association.
President Turel, who made a speech after the election, said, “There is no importance of the position or the seat for the person who is the lover of the city. Both the mayorship and the presidency of the association are only a responsibility, a task. I want to emphasize that together we will show the best performance that we can, to take our association’s works further. Hopefully, we will carry out these successful tasks in the best way. The works of our association do not have a political aspect. Here we have presidents, friends from all political parties. The common aim of all of us is to contribute to the healthy development of all the cities in Turkey. Each of us may have come here because of our political duties. However, our political identities are not a priority here; putting our political identities aside, we must definitely provide this service in strong family ties which have reached up to today.”
Following President Türel’s vote of thanks, the assembly meeting was closed after the family photograph was taken.
After the assembly meeting, President Türel came together with members of the council and advisory board in the service building of the association to exchange views on future activities.
