The members of political committee met in Brno, Czech Republic on September 5-6, 2024 to improve cooperation more and share good practices. The meeting was hosted by Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková and coordinated by Regional Director of WHO European Healthy Cities Network Kira Fortune. On behalf of Turkish Healthy Cities National Network, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and President of Turkish Healthy Cities Association Dr. Cemil Tugay, Deputy Secretary General of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mehmet Emin Direkçi, Deputy Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Prof. Dr. Pınar Okyay, Secretary General of Turkish Healthy Cities Association Murat Ar and Healthy Cities Project Coordinator, Director of Climate Change and Clean Energy Department of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Toker attended the meeting.
Senior executives of European Healthy Cities Network Political Committee also attended the meeting. Discussion about how cities in European Healthy Cities Network are actively implementing the principles of the Policy Statement adopted in November 2023; providing feedback on initial findings and plans for the Phase 7 evaluation by focusing on the structure and role of political committee; initiation the planning process for Phase 8 to determine the strategic direction and objectives for the next phase of European Healthy Cities Network were agenda items of the meeting.
WHO European Healthy Cities Network 2025 Conference Will be Held in Bursa
At the end of the meeting, it was announced that it was decided to hold 2025 Conference of WHO European Healthy Cities Network in Bursa. The introductory film of Bursa was presented to the participants and the invitation message of President Mustafa Bozbey was shared. The details of the conference will be finalized after the visit of the delegation led by Regional Director of European Healthy Cities Network Kira Fortune, to Bursa in mid-September.
After the meeting, the Mayor of Brno Markéta Vaňková was visited in her office upon her invitation. Deputy Mayor of Brno Filip Chvatal also accompanied the visit. The visitation concluded with the decision to develop cooperation for common working area of municipalities.
